Chasing Light: From Georgia to Maine
There’s something about a road trip that always calls to me. Maybe it’s the long stretches of highway, the change in scenery every few hours, or just the sense of freedom that comes with heading somewhere new. A couple of weeks ago I packed up my gear, filled the tank, and started a month-long vacation that took me from Georgia all the way up to Maine. My plan was simple: spend a month exploring, photographing the landscapes, and capping it off with the Southport Island Musicfest.
The drive itself was part of the adventure. Rolling hills gave way to coastal towns, and I found myself stopping in little places along the way just to take it all in. By the time I reached Maine, I felt like I had already collected a hundred small moments worth remembering.
Maine welcomed me in the best way possible. Every day seemed to start and end with a scene worth photographing. Sunrise came with soft colors stretching across the sky, lighthouses stood tall against the waves, and the harbors felt like paintings with sailboats resting in calm water. At night, when the world quieted down, I’d look up and see stars so bright they almost didn’t feel real. Standing there with my camera, waiting for the shutter to click, I couldn’t help but feel grateful just to be in that place at that moment.
The Southport Island Musicfest brought a whole different energy. There’s something special about combining music and photography. The rhythm of the performers, the crowd swaying along, and the salty breeze coming in from the water made it an experience I’ll never forget. Photographing live music is always exciting, but doing it in such a beautiful setting added something extra to the whole trip.
By the time I packed up to head back home, I had hundreds of photographs that summed it all up. Sunrises that lit the sky on fire, lighthouses standing proud, harbors reflecting stillness, and a night sky filled with stars. Each image feels like a little piece of the story I brought back with me.
This trip wasn’t just about covering miles on the map. It was about slowing down, experiencing something new, and letting the camera capture moments that I’ll hold onto for a long time. Maine has a way of leaving its mark, and I know I’ll be back. For now, I’m excited to share these photos with you and give you a glimpse of what I saw on the road from Georgia to Maine.
